Beach Boy
Beach Boy (2000)
The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University handed out 50 wooden boxes to different artists; I was one of three photographers selected. We were all asked to create an artwork that involved the box. I filled it with sand, making a sandbox - part of my quiet humor in life. I photographed the altered box and then digitally inserted the image of the box in another photograph, "Beach Boy," which I had taken in Puerto Rico four years before. The composite has been printed as three separate pieces, further echoing the shape of the cube - our original assignment. The combination of photography and treated box fulfilled the Rose Museum's challenge and kept my creation true to my sense of self.
