Lingering Lines
Lingering Lines (2007)
"Lingering Lines" bas drawn me deeper into abstract expression. Some aspects announce a direct evolution from earlier work. Other, may appear to be new. I'm very interested in line and color, what it does to us, how it impacts space. In the field, I'm looking through and working with the constraints of a frame. In the studio, I'm still working with line, color, space, an absolute frame, but I'm now focused on edges, turning each image around, losing/forgetting the images as they were in the field, butting them up against one another, building them, magnifying what is, intrigued by how one image affects another - creating a dialogue; a new image, different from what was.
Lingering Lines and Memories are two, new bodies of works in progress. The field work has been completed. Lingering Lines is offered in near entirety, as originally perceived. The printing of Memories has just begun. This is an introduction.
The human being is complicated. Each has identifying and hidden motifs running within. My interest is in locating and expressing suggestive layers of thought and experience, which inevitably highlight contradiction, obvious and discrete.
The juxtaposition of Lingering Lines and Memories is a celebration of dominant themes. Each runs deep within: bold, architectural and graphic; dreamy, soft and noir. Each metaphorically references my inner reflections on life.
