Space Redefined

SPACE REDEFINED (2009)

There's a sensuousness, a beauty, a freeing of the inner spirit in the extraordinary light, expanse of big, blue, open skies, overhead; the vistas, stretching for miles and miles, and the structures in the Southwest. They bring freshness, high energy, fascination and excitement to my soul. The stimulant creates these dream-like expressions of something familiar, and yet, not quite.

In this series, I feel something of what it must to be a sculptor, and an architect. Instead of a clump of clay, I use photographic images. Like a sculptor, I turn the images, work all sides, mold. Like an architect, I'm deeply influenced by the environment in which these images initially breathe. As an architect, I work with angles and edges. I change what is. And yet, include certain, preexisting structures, bring another point of view.
