Woodland Fantasies
Woodland Fantasies (2003)
A silent story emerged in the course of looking at these pictures. The story was a surprise, an unexpected discovery-whimsical and sexy. The series came about as I was preparing to photograph a wedding and was testing a new kind of film and a flash (I don't normally use a flash). I turned the work prints upside down, as I always do. You see things differently that way. You stop seeing it for what it "is," and become freer to ask, "Does it work?" As I tried to imagine how I would present these, a story emerged about a young woman who goes into the woodlands and meets her prince.
All the prints in this series are displayed "upside down" relative to the way they were taken. Now "upside down" has become "right side up."
